Composition

Each 10 g syringe contains:

Cloxacillin (Benzathine)                         500 mg

Sulfadimidin (Sodium)                            750 mg

Trimethoprim                               125 mg

Oil base up to                                10  gr

Drug information

Cloxacillin is a semi-synthetic antibiotic from betalactam group that has activity against the following major pathogens associated with mastitis; Staphylococcus spp., Micrococcus spp., Streptococcus agalactiae, Corynebacterium spp. and other bacteria during the dry period in cows.

Sulfadimidin Sodium is effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, bacillus anthracis, clostridium tetani, clostridium perfringens, Escherichia coli, salmonella, pasteurella, chlamydia, nocardia and some protozoa such as coccidia and Toxoplasma spp.
Trimethoprim binds to dihydrofolate reductase and inhibits the reduction of dihydrofolic acid (DHF) to tetrahydrofolic acid (THF). THF is an essential precursor in the thymidine synthesis pathway and interference with this pathway inhibits bacterial DNA synthesis.

 

Indications

Treatment or prevention of mastitis occurring in the dry period.                              

 

Dosage and Administration

For intramammary administration only.

The contents of one syringe should be infused into each quarter via the teat canal immediately in drying period. Before infusion, the teat should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected and care should be taken to avoid contamination of the injector nozzle.

After infusion, massage the contents up into the udder.

 

Precautions

• Do not use in lactating cows.

 

Withdrawal Periods

• Animals intended for human consumption should not be slaughtered until 28 days after the last treatment.

 

Storage Conditions

Store below 25^°C and protect from light and freezing.
